What is it?
CS:GO is running an experiment to find out whether players will have a better matchmaking experience when they are matched with players who are using a phone-linked CS:GO account. Basically an extra sense of security for those who want to play peacefully unaffected by hackers and smurfs who disrupt the community.
How to join?
To join the experiment, you’ll need to upgrade your CS:GO account to Prime status. Just click the UPGRADE button below, which will bind your Steam phone number to your CS:GO account (provided it qualifies, see the image below). Please Note: That if you want to play with FRIENDS, you need to all have prime activated otherwise it won’t work and you’ll be queued with unverified accounts.. Smurfs/Hackers.
Choose your main account!
If you own multiple CS:GO accounts, be sure to upgrade your MAIN one since you can only upgrade one CS:GO account to Prime status with your qualifying phone number. Basically you’ll have to enter a new number each time you get banned and that means a lot of effort. That’s why this system seems to make more sense. They are trying to make it not worth cheating at all.
What will happen?
Once there are enough Prime accounts, they will begin Prime Account Matchmaking and will start prioritizing matching Prime status players with each other. There’s nothing else you need to do (except convince your friends to click that Upgrade button too so that they get enough players to start testing!
Why are they doing this?
Basically Valve is trying to encourage people to do this to but a stop to cheating. Personally I think this is a good idea because games will be a lot more interesting. However I certainly think there will be loopholes and people who still cheat around this but thats life. If you get banned on that phone number you will no longer be trusted when you use that number for Steam.
